Bobcats tie for the first place title of the West Division after 3-2 win over UTA

The Texas State volleyball team was down two sets to UTA Nov. 6 in Arlington, Texas, but fought their way back to win the match 3-2 (26-28, 17-25, 25-8, 25-21, 15-11).

The Bobcats who have an overall record of 21-8 and 12-2 in the Sun Belt Conference had a season sweep over UTA. With the win, the Bobcats moved into a tie for first with Louisiana in the West Division of the conference.

Senior Erin Hoppe finished with a match-high 47 assists. With the help from sophomore Megan Porter, who had a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs, sophomore Amy Pflughaupt (18) who had double-digit digs along with sophomores Mattie Adams (13) and Micah Dinwiddie (11) the Bobcats came back to win the match.

In the first set the Bobcats jumped out to a 18-15 advantage, but the Mavericks responded with a 6-1 run that put UTA up 21-19. After the UTA run, Texas State tied the set at 24-24. With UTA scoring the last four out of the final six points the Bobcats had no chance.

In the second set the Mavericks jumped out to a 10-5 lead, turning into a 19-10 lead. The Mavericks ended the set with a 25-17 win.

In the third set, the Bobcats finally found themselves and jumped out to a 10-3 lead and never looked back. The Bobcats won the set 25-8.

Texas State started the fourth set with a 10-3 lead. The Mavericks fought all the way back to a one-point deficit at 21-20, but Texas State ultimately won the set 25-21.

After a stand still at 6-6 in the final set, the Bobcats moved ahead after a quick 4-0 run. UTA fought back into the set and were right behind the Bobcats at 12-10. However, the Bobcats earned the final three points to earn them a victory of the night.

The Bobcats come back home to take on Louisiana Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
