Bobcats take first place in James S. Litz Memorial

Beginning their season with a last place finish, the Texas State Bobcats have improved in each event taking first at the James S. Litz Memorial Oct. 30-31.

The men’s golf team closed the two-day event with a total 17-over 869. The Bobcats sat atop the leaderboards from day one, finishing in first place in each round with scores of 290, 283 and 296.

Finishing behind Texas State in the second and third spots, respectively, were the University of New Orleans with a 26-over 878 and Incarnate Word with a 31-over 883. Each school closed the event with three players in the top 10.

Sophomore Logan Lockwood led the Bobcats taking the top spot on the individual leaderboard and earning his first championship. The Van, Texas native carded rounds of 70, 69 and 74 for an even-par 213.

Lockwood’s first place finish marks the 15th for Texas State men’s golf since 1993.

Tying with Incarnate Word’s Cole Solis for fourth place overall, junior Logan Davis posted rounds of 71, 74 and 72 for a total four-over par 217.

Sophomore Calvin Ross followed Lockwood and Davis, tying for sixth with three other players. The Canada native strung together rounds of 73, 71 and 74 for a five-over par 218.

Freshman Grant Lincecum posted rounds of 76, 72 and 76 in his first collegiate start. The freshman posted an 11-over par 224, tying for 18th.

Competing as an individual, junior Hugo Esposito fired a 10-over par 223 for a 17th place finish. The Madrid, Spain native posted rounds of 73, 74 and 76.

Before their first-place finish, Texas State finished 13th in the Gene Miranda Invitational, ninth in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic and fourth in the Price’s “Give ‘Em 5” Invitational.

Next up, the Bobcats head west to Pebble Beach, California. to compete in the St. Mary’s Invitational Nov. 5-8.
