The City of San Marcos released a press release Tuesday morning announcing the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter’s decision to offer assistance to pet owners.
The shelter will be providing assistance in the form of vouchers which will cover the cost of spay and neuter services. This voucher will cover all costs associated with the procedure itself, however, owners will be responsible for any pain medications or additional resources the veterinarian deems necessary.
In May the regional shelter was reporting all-time high numbers, close to capacity. The number of strays during the summer increases every year, and the shelter hopes providing these services will help to alleviate the number of unclaimed animals in Hays County.
Vouchers will be available through the end of August and there is no limit on the number of vouchers pet owners can receive. However, those that receive vouchers must be Hays County residents.
The vouchers are offered through a grant from the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis program, and funded by the sale of pet friendly license plates.
The first step in the process is to the visit the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter at 750 River Road during business hours or email Animal_services_info@sanmarcostx.gov. Applications are also available on our website at http://www.sanmarcostx.gov/animalservices.
