The second of two suspects involved in the robbery of a Valero gas station in the town of Kyle has been successfully identified and is now in the custody of the Austin Police Department.

The suspect in question, 18-year-old male, Charles Brian Lane, fled the scene of the crime in a Quad extended-cab Chevrolet 4-by-4 pickup truck after robbing the gas station with a gun, wherein one of the suspects shot a Valero clerk below the kneecap. The victim was later transported to Brackenridge Hospital in a stable condition.

The crime occurred on June 11 at approximately 10:15 p.m. and the resulting investigation culminated in the apprehension and eventual arrest of Lane, as well as a 16-year-old male from the nearby town of Buda, whose identity has not been released to the public on account of the suspect in question being a minor.

While the unnamed suspect was apprehended relatively shortly after law enforcement officials were called to the scene, Lane remained unidentified and at large for several days afterward. Lane’s arrest was the product of the police’s public release of a Valero security camera video on June 15, intended to encourage area residents to attempt to identify the suspect.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Department has attained warrants for charges of Aggravated Robbery and Criminal Attempt Capital Murder, on the part of both Lane and the juvenile suspect.

Lane, a Buda resident himself, will be transported to Hays County Jail upon the resolution of his Austin Police Department charges.
