The San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) is taking a proactive approach for online shoppers looking for a ‘safe zone’ to make exchanges or transactions.
Under the new SafeTrade Program, there will be two designated areas at the police department off of the South IH-35 frontage road, strictly for customers wanting to meet up with buyers or sellers to conduct transactions. The program is intended for those who consider themselves avid ‘Craiglisters’ wanting to buy or sell items safely.
Surveillance cameras will monitor both of the designated locations in the SMPD parking lot and the lobby. The ‘safe zones’ will also permit child custody exchanges, according to an Aug. 3 city press release.
