Louisiana-Lafayette came into San Marcos on a three-game losing streak.
The Texas State baseball team did not extend the Ragin’ Cajuns losing streak as the Bobcats fell 11-3 in the first of two games on Saturday.
The game was close after the fifth inning.
Texas State was down 5-1 until the team added two runs on a Cory Geisler, junior center fielder, triple and a sacrifice fly from Cedric Vallieres, senior second baseman. Their efforts brought the score to 5-3.
The Bobcats did not hold down the Ragin’ Cajuns for long. Louisiana-Lafayette scored four runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth to give the team a 11-2 lead.
Lucas Humpal, junior pitcher, started the matchup and pitched into the seventh inning, but he left the game with one out.
Joe Powell, sophomore pitcher, came in to help the Bobcats, but he did not come through. Powell walked his first three batters, leading to a three-run double by Dylan Butler, Ragin’ Cajuns senior right fielder. Butler’s double gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 9-2 lead and put the game out of reach for the Bobcats.
Granger Studdard, sophomore left fielder, started the eighth inning with a solo home run. Studdard’s home run gives him eight on the season, tying him with Vallieres for the team-high.
Texas State and Louisiana-Lafayette continue the three-game series in a second matchup Saturday and one on Sunday.
