Drowning case investigation ongoing

The investigation being conducted by the San Marcos Police Department into the drowning death of 4-year-old Dixon Ramirez Valdez remains ongoing.

Officers on the scene said Valdez drowned at The Outpost, an apartment complex where his mother and another woman were working, cleaning apartments on the 1600 block of Post Road.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 13, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

The children of the two women, whose ages ranged between four and eighteen, were playing in the apartment complex swimming pool while their mothers worked. One of the children, a six-year-old, noticed that four-year-old Dixon Ramirez Valdez appeared to be sleeping along the edge of the pool.

This was brought to the attention of the eighteen-year-old, who removed Valdez from the pool and began to perform CPR.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, they continued to perform additional life-saving measures. Valdez was eventually transported to Central Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

At this stage in the investigation, an autopsy has been ordered to further determine the cause of death.

“This is still an open investigation,” said Kristy Wyatt, San Marcos director of Communications & Intergovernmental Relations. “We don’t know many of the details.”

Due to the ongoing nature of the case, no additional information has been released as of yet, Wyatt said.
