Volleyball prepares for postseason

While other Texas State teams have seen their postseason hopes dashed, the Bobcat volleyball’s postseason journey is only beginning.

Texas State travels to San Antonio this weekend to compete in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Bobcats will begin the tournament 11 a.m. Friday against eighth-seeded Southeastern Louisiana.

The Bobcats come into the tournament as the No. 1 seed riding a 10-match win streak. The Bobcats were 9-12 overall, 3-3 in the SLC, coming off a five-set home defeat against Central Arkansas before the current streak.

Two games and a shot at the No. 1 seed for the Southland Conference tournament are at stake this weekend for the Bobcat volleyball team.

Volleyball takes wins for division lead

The Bobcat volleyball team seized the chance it was given to tie Sam Houston State for the Southland Conference West Division lead.

Texas State defeated Lamar 3-2 Thursday and SHSU 3-0 Saturday, taking its win streak to eight matches.

“The Bobcats are here,” Coach Karen Chisum said. “We are playing well and have a lot of confidence.”

The Bobcats honored seniors Jessica Weynand, outside hitter, and Brittany Collins, setter, before the game. Collins finished the match with 12 assists while Weynand recorded 12 kills.

Volleyball seeks revenge

Lamar and Sam Houston State handed the Bobcat volleyball team its first conference losses a month ago. The Bobcats will look to avenge those losses when they host Lamar Thursday and Sam Houston State Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.

Mo Middleton, junior outside hitter, said the Bobcats remember the previous losses and trash talking from both Lamar and SHSU.

“We are more pumped than ever,” Middleton said. “We have lots of reasons to have a fire lit under us and we’re ready to come out and let it all go at home.”

Bobcats defeat SFA, McNeese State

The Bobcat volleyball team showed no fear this Halloween weekend.

Texas State had road wins at Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State 3-0 and 3-2, respectively.  The Bobcats improved their record to 14-12 overall, 8-3 in the Southland Conference and extended their win streak to five. The wins vaulted the Bobcats to a spot at third in the SLC, putting them second in the West Division.

Bobcat volleyball looks to break SLC tied record with Lumberjacks

This weekend will be something to which they have all looked toward.

The Bobcat volleyball team will take on Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State in road matches Thursday and Saturday as it looks to inch closer to first place in the Southland Conference’s West Division.

The Bobcats are deadlocked with the Lumberjacks in the SLC standings, with each team holding a 6-3 SLC record. McNeese State is two games behind the Bobcats but holds an overall record of 16-7 this season.

Bobcats claw Colonels, Lions

The Bobcat volleyball team defeated Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana Thursday and Saturday, respectively, to even its season record at 12. The wins pulled Texas State into a second place tie with a 6-3 record in the Southland Conference’s West Division after Stephen F. Austin defeated Lamar.

The Bobcats took advantage of three consecutive matches against three of the four teams at the bottom of the SLC standings. The Bobcats turned the stretch into a three-match win streak. They went into the final seven matches of the season in a three-way tie for third in the SLC.

Volleyball takes on Nicholls State Thursday in Strahan

The Texas State volleyball team suffered a three-point loss in the fifth set to drop its last home match against Central Arkansas Oct. 14. The Bobcats will return to Strahan Coliseum to take on Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana Thursday and Saturday.

Nicholls State has an overall record of 9-12, 3-4 in the Southland Conference and is tied for third in the East Division. The Colonels have recorded upset wins against Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State but have lost their previous two matches against Lamar and Sam Houston State.

Volleyball burns Demons at SLC game

At this point in the season, volleyball teams are separating themselves from the pack, and the Bobcats are looking to secure themselves as one of the leaders.

Texas State defeated Northwestern State 3-1 Saturday, bringing its record to 10-12 overall and 4-3 in the Southland Conference. The Demons fell 1-15 overall and 0-8 in the SLC with the loss.

The match continued a winning trend for the Bobcats against teams with weaker records, while struggling to take down higher-ranked teams.
