MAIN POINT: Vacation ventures

Students remember fond childhood memories of careless summers: Backyard baseball games, pool parties and spending entire afternoons doing nothing.

Now, after two hard semesters of studying, sacrifice and sleep deprivations, it might be tempting for students to become lazy. Some might say to themselves, 1 p.m. is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up, or pizza for every meal is a fine nutritional diet.
But those attending an institution of higher learning are expected to have the abilities to be independent, which does not exclude the months between May and August.

Civilian Complications

Veterans coming back from war can never be the same. People who leave the military often describe their experience as a positive, yet grueling one. However, for some who join, the experience can cause permanent psychological damage, often in the form of post-traumatic stress disorder.

The army reported 24 soldiers killed themselves in January. The report came one week after the army reported record suicide rates in 2008.

Techno Takeover

The demands imposed on students today are changing right along with them. It is not enough pressure to compete with hundreds of like-minded people at the university, not to mention the innumerable competition from all over the country. Now one’s familiarity with technology itself can make or break a career. Students must be, in the very least, proficient in their chosen fields of study, and stay updated with the technological advances of  future careers.

Vindicating Vandalism

The San Marcos Police Department says it should be unlawful to even think about writing graffiti.

An amendment to a current city ordinance would make it legal under specific circumstances to carry art supplies that could be used to create graffiti if the San Marcos Police Department has its way.

Police would have the right under the proposed city ordinance to cite persons in possession of graffiti implements on any community grounds, facilities or buildings when the areas are closed to the public.

Campaign Commotion

However, considering how the spring 2007 and spring 2008 elections went, there is a notable trend for the wise: Don’t break the rules or you will lose.

Former ASG President Reagan Pugh’s campaign was faced with a disparaging e-mail advertisement the day students casted votes. The e-mail was deemed as not in violation of ASG election codes, but remains in memories of recipients and readers nonetheless.

Basketball berating

A band of strangers will never come together without some dominant figure pointing the way for them. Getting people to work in unison toward a common goal can be one of the most difficult tasks an individual can undertake, and it takes a certain person to be that leader.

People who have witnessed Texas State men’s basketball games must be wondering where that leadership is right now.

It would seem that the Bobcats do their best only after the other team acts up.
