The Texas State women’s soccer team finally has a place of its own. The Bobcats have new locker rooms located below Harris Dining Hall near the West Campus Fields.
The freshmen and sophomores on the team live in San Marcos Hall, which is near the location of the new locker room.
The Texas State women’s soccer team came home with two losses this weekend in California against the University of California-Irvine and the University of California-Riverside.
The team lost 2-1 to UC-Irvine Friday at Anteater Stadium. Britney Curry, junior forward, scored for Texas State during the second half after a pass from Lauren Lewis, junior forward.
Coach Kat Conner said the team seemed out of sync throughout the game.
The Texas State men’s basketball team has a new addition to the athletic department.
Rob Flaska is one of the new assistant basketball coaches hoping to lead the team to victory for the 2009 to 2010 season with head coach Doug Davalos.
Part of the college experience occurs outside of the classroom.
Texas State sport clubs provide students with an opportunity to meet new people, gain leadership skills and continue with high school sports in which they participated on a college level.
Incoming students learn about sport clubs upon orientation. Groups go to the Student Recreation Center to attend the sport clubs fair.
The Texas State track and field team received four more NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Sooner Invite Saturday in Oklahoma.
Kemuel Morales, health and wellness promotion senior, placed third in the shot put with a throw of 17.34 meters, giving him a qualifying mark.
“I have hit the mark several times already, and I have qualified for the past three or four years,” Morales said. “I think this is my best year.”
Morales has high hopes for the remainder of the season.
The Texas State track and field team competed at the University of Texas Twilight meet Saturday in Austin. The Bobcats brought home five NCAA Regional qualifying standards.
Kevin Aje, economics sophomore, Aaron Jones, accounting junior, Stefon Hargrove, undecided freshman, and Brandon Thomas, pre-psychology freshman, qualified with a time of 40.55 in the men’s 4-by-100 meter relay placing them third in the event.
The Texas State track and field team has found 14 to be its lucky number.
The team brought home 14 first-place titles for the third time this season after competing at the Trinity Alumni Classic Thursday in San Antonio.
Brandon Thomas, pre-psychology freshman, competed for the first time since his hamstring injury. He won first place in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 21.62. He also placed third in the 100-meter event.
“I did not run in the first two meets because I was working with the trainers,” Thomas said.
It was a cold weekend for the men’s Renegade Rugby club team as they competed in the Western Rugby Union Semifinal.
The club lost Sunday 34-19 at Northern Colorado after winning its second consecutive state championship March 8.
The team was originally scheduled to play Saturday, but because of weather conditions, the Renegades were unable to do so until Sunday afternoon.
“On Friday it was 60-degree great weather,” said Shawn Cox, marketing junior, “but then we could see a storm rolling in over the mountains.”
The Texas State track and field teams traveled to San Antonio for the UTSA Relays this weekend. The Bobcats brought home 14 first-place titles for the second time this season.
Mary O’Connor, communication studies senior, said although the team had satisfactory results, the weather was not optimal.
“The team did well, considering how windy it was,” O’Connor said, “but I wasn’t even close to my personal best.”
However, Aaron Jones, accounting junior, said the wind was an advantage for the sprinters.
The Texas State track and field team brought home 14 first-place finishes at the Tiger Relays Friday in San Antonio. Team members accomplished their personal best records and set goals for the remainder of the season.
Jonathan Hernandez, health and wellness promotion junior, placed first in the 1500-meter run.
“I beat my personal record by five seconds,” Hernandez said. “We have a time trial this Saturday to keep us in shape over the break.”
