Gary Vaynerchuk

Gary Vaynerchuk looks rather unassuming. Dressed in a casual blue button-down shirt and jeans, he may as well have been sitting in the audience during Wednesday’s Mass Comm Week presentation in the Alkek Theatre.

However, once Vaynerchuk took the stage, an inconspicuous appearance gave way to a passionate intensity that both captivated and educated a full auditorium on the potential success found in social networking.

Four days of rain wore heavy on the minds of some local San Marcos musicians Saturday, but the weather did not stop the musical showcase at Tantra Coffeehouse.

“We were very weary of the rain,” said Taylor Wilkins, lead singer and guitarist of The Couch. “We got a bunch of tents over the stage, but we could only hold 50 or 60 people under them, and it looks like there’s more than that in attendance.”

Students, fans and alumni kicked off the opening game against Angelo State with a rousing tailgate party in the stadium parking lot, capped with a performance by Charlie Robison, Texas country artist and Texas State alumnus.
