Tyler Rhein Schobert, 20, died after being struck by a train Tuesday near the 600 block of East Hopkins Street.
According to a press release from the City of San Marcos, witnesses say Schobert stepped in front of the train at about 1:40 p.m. Schobert was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge in Austin due to the severity of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
An employee of H-E-B who wished to remain anonymous said Schobert was a coworker. Workers have been told not to disclose any information about their brand partners, the source said.
“(Schobert) was a very quiet guy who kept to himself,” the source said.
The source said they did not know much about the incident, and that H-E-B management has not told employees anything about the case.
City spokeswoman Melissa Millecam said the train was stopped near Hopkins Street and the H-E-B grocery store after the incident as emergency crews assessed the scene.
The San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
