Texas State football will begin its season Aug. 31 on the road against Conference USA’s Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The Bobcats’ other three non-conference battles will include another trip to Lubbock to face Texas Tech University and home games against the University of Wyoming and Prairie View A&M University. Prairie View A&M, like Stephen F. Austin University last season, is Texas State’s only FCS opponent. The University of Texas-San Antonio’s non-conference schedule carries more weight as the Bobcats’ rival heads to C-USA. UTSA will host Big 12’s Oklahoma State University and will travel to the Pac-12’s University of Arizona. Texas State is slated in 2015 to play Southern Miss at home and Florida State University on the road.

Texas State softball will begin the 2013 season ranked 44th in the nation by College Sports Madness, according to the publication’s preseason list released last week. Coach Ricci Woodard was selected as athletic instructor of the year in the WAC. College Sports Madness ranked the Bobcats as the WAC’s projected No. 1 team.

Out of 347 schools, 18 have fewer wins than Texas State men’s basketball does this season thus far. Three of those teams are in the Southland Conference, Texas State’s Conference last season and for the better part of recent Bobcat history. Victories for men’s basketball have come against a non-scholarship school (University of Texas - Tyler), Fordham (5-12), University of California- Riverside (4-12) and Texas-Pan American (9-10).

Texas State Athletics announced this week that the Bobcat Club will hold a luncheon Feb. 6 at noon. Guests in attendance will include coaches Dennis Franchione, Ty Harrington [2] and Ricci Woodard, of football, basketball and softball, respectively. Franchione will announce the slew of recruits expected to commit to Texas State football’s near future. The luncheon will be located in the Sac-n-Pac Room on the second floor of the North End Zone Complex.
