Bobcat pride to be featured at new restaurant
Bobcat Nation Sports Bar & Grill will open in the strip mall across from the bus loop in mid October.
Co-owners Brandon Stone, David Howard and Terry Wagner plan to cover the place in Texas State memorabilia to transform Bobcat Nation into that “iconic sports bar in the middle of a college town.”
The bar will have many televisions for watching games and both indoor and outdoor seating. Patrons will be able to see Old Main from the outdoor patio.
Many major college towns have an iconic sports bar, but San Marcos hasn’t had one until now. The co-owners, two Texas State alumni, want Bobcat Nation to be dedicated to Texas State.
“The biggest thing is that we are here for the university. The marketing department at Texas State, the athletic department and the faculty are all very excited about having something on that side of campus that is an alternative to the speed bars downtown,” Howard said. “Not every student wants that all the time. They want somewhere to go and relax and enjoy the game.”
The game-day fodder available at Bobcat Nation will include weekly specials, as well as burgers, wings, chicken salads and other “bar food,” Stone said.
“Everything will be fresh. It won’t be anything frozen,” Stone said. “As far as drinks go, we will have a full bar with specialty drinks, some that have been known for years and some that we will invent to go along with Texas State. We will have a Bobcat shot and specialty cocktails that you can only get here.”
Bobcat Nation will not only be a place to hang out and watch the game. It will serve other purposes for the faculty and prospective Texas State students as well. Howard said he wants Bobcat Nation to be a place for coaches to take recruits.
“We want to have somewhere to take a student athlete that is dedicated to Texas State and helps with the spirit and pride of our university,” Howard said.
Bobcat Nation will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day of the week. It will be open to all ages until 9 p.m. Afterward, the kitchen closes and the bar will be open only to ages 21 and up.
