UPDATED 11:42 a.m.: Buildings can be re-entered at noon. Today's classes are cancelled and all other activities will resume at 5 p.m., according to the University of Texas twitter.

The University of Texas campus has been evacuated following a bomb threat this morning.

An emergency alert calling for the evacuation was posted at 9:53 a.m. on the UT website.

"Evacuation due to threats on campus. Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible. More information to come," the alert states.

The Austin American-Statesman reported UT officials released a statement that said at 8:35 a.m. the university "received a call from a male with a middle eastern accent claiming to have placed bombs all over campus. He said he was with Al Qaeda and these bombs would go off in 90 minutes."

The official UT twitter account was updated at 10:25 to say "Buildings are being checked/cleared. Stay away from buildings. No decision on afternoon classes/activities. Next update at 10:45 a.m."
