The Texas State volleyball team defeated the Houston Cougars, 3-1, in the final game of the Houston Cougar Classic.
The Bobcats rebounded from a 11-25 loss in the second set to outscore the Cougars by seven points over the last two sets. The victory puts the Bobcats' season record at 2-1 and gives the team an important early season victory on the road.
Lauren Kirch, freshman blocker, finished with a team-high 19 kills and 58.6 hitting percentage. Kirch also converted three digs and one block assist. Shelby Vas Matt, sophomore hitter, had double-digit kills (15) and digs (11).
The Bobcats tallied 88 points in the match and had five players with more than five kills. Jordan Moore, sophomore setter, led the team with 46 assists and recorded six digs.
Texas State’s next opponent is a home match against Baylor at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday.
