The Texas State soccer team opened its 2014 season with a 1-0 exhibition victory over the Houston Baptist Huskies.

"I saw some things offensively that we've been working on so I was really proud of that," said Coach Kat Conner.

Texas State led the shot attempt category, 16 to seven, while Caitlyn Rinehart, junior goalkeeper, played the entire game in the net, recording five saves. The Bobcats also led corner kicks 5-3.

"Defensively, we looked real suspect in what we were trying to do, in our shifts and in our steps, so we'll have to go back to the drawing board on that and break down the film," Conner said. "But, they've realized something was going wrong and asked to see the film. That's a good thing because that means that they're ready to learn."

Kassi Hormuth, freshman forward, recorded her first career goal as a Bobcat in the 57th minute with a header off of a corner kick by Jordan Brown, senior midfielder. The Bobcats dominated the time of possession and allowed just one shot attempt by the Huskies in the first half.

"It was awesome," Hormuth said. "It was so exciting, finally putting all the hardworking into action."

The Bobcats will open the regular season on the road on August 22 against the University of Texas at El Paso.
