Timothy Mottet, Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication, announced he will be leaving Texas State to accept a position as Provost at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.

In an email to faculty and staff Thursday, Mottet announced his news saying he will be leaving Texas State July 31 and joining Northwest Missouri State Aug. 1.

Mottet was nominated for the Provost position at Northwest Missouri State and decided to submit an application, which resulted in interviews and an offer to join the university, according to the email.

Mottet stated that he decided to pursue the position because it would mean being closer to family and his aging parents, the email said.

After three years at Texas State, Mottet said together with his colleagues they’ve accomplished much and he has enjoyed being the Dean, according to the email.

In the email, Mottet said the faculty were “amazing educators,” but have also been “incredible colleagues.”

Mottet thanked faculty for their support and sent best wishes to them, according to the email.

Mottet was named Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication July 1, 2011, according to an April 2011 University News Service.

Before being named dean at Texas State, Mottet chaired the Department of Communication at the University of Texas-Pan American and held the Henry and Margaret Hauser Endowed Chair in Communication, according to the Texas State website.
