Austen Williams, junior pitcher, was selected with the Washington Nationals' sixth-round selection (184th overall) in the 2014 MLB Draft.
Williams is the first Bobcat drafted this year and the highest selected since Kyle Kubitza was picked in the third round in 2011. This is the sixth consecutive season a Bobcat has been drafted in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft. Williams is the 33rd Bobcat drafted during Coach Ty Harrington's 14-year tenure and the 48th Bobcat drafted in school history.
Williams was in the top five in the Sun Belt Conference earned run average, innings pitched and opponent batting average. He averaged 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings, which led the team.
The 2014 MLB Draft concludes tomorrow with rounds 11-40.
