Baseball loses to Louisiana in tournament, moves on to face Louisiana-Monroe

The Texas State baseball team lost 11-4 Thursday to first-seeded Louisiana in the Sun Belt tournament. 
 
The Bobcats scored in the top of the first inning. Austin O’Neal, senior first baseman, singled through the left side to score Cory Geisler, sophomore center fielder, to take a 1-0 lead. 
 
The Rajun Cajuns followed with a 3-run bottom of the first as Caleb Adams, Rajun Cajun outfielder, doubled to left center. Louisiana, the second ranked team in the country, led 3-1 after the first inning.
 
Garrett Mattlage, junior shortstop, hit a 3-run home run in the top of third to put Texas State up 4-3. The Bobcats failed to score in the final 6 innings.
 
Jace Conrad, Rajun Cajuns second baseman, singled in the fifth inning to give the Cajuns a 5-4 lead. Conrad went 3-4 with 3 runs scored, two runs batted in, and two assists. Conrad had two of the Rajun Cajuns' eight stolen bases in the game.
 
Lucas Humpal, sophomore pitcher, threw 4.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits.
 
Carson Baranik, Rajun Cajun pitcher, finished with four earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
 
Texas State will play eighth-seeded Louisiana-Monroe Friday at 3 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinals against Louisiana, while the loser is eliminated from the tournament.
 
The Bobcats lost two of three regular season meetings against Louisiana-Monroe this season.
