The Texas State baseball team advanced to the second round of the Sun Belt tournament Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over Western Kentucky.
The Bobcats tied the game with 3 runs scored in the bottom of the ninth inning after being down 3-0. Granger Studdard, freshman left fielder, Cody Lovejoy, junior right fielder and Tyler Pearson, senior catcher, scored in the inning to keep Texas State’s postseason hopes alive. A total of six Bobcats reached base in the ninth.
Dylan Bein, freshman pitcher, did not allow a base runner in the top of the 10th inning. Lovejoy's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th scored the winning run. Lovejoy, pinch hitting for Colby Targun, junior right fielder, finished with a run scored and an RBI in two at bats.
The Bobcats will play first-seeded Louisiana Thursday in the second round. Texas State was 1-2 against the Ragin Cajuns in the regular season.
