Texas State hit three home runs in their 12-5 victory over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks Friday night in the first game of the weekend series.
The game was scoreless heading into the third inning until Granger Studdard, freshman outfielder, hit a grand slam that drove in in Matt Smith, Colby Targun and Garrett Mattlage to take a 4-0 lead.
Austen Williams, junior pitcher, got the start in the first game of the series at Monroe, Louisiana. The junior’s night ended after six innings where he gave up seven hits, 2 runs, striking out five batters.
In the top of the sixth inning, an error by Monroe brought the lead to 5-2. Trey Hicks, freshman infielder, drove in 2 more runs before the inning was over to bring the lead to 6-2 heading into the seventh inning.
The Bobcats increased their lead to 9-2 in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Ben McElroy, junior outfielder, and on another run driven in by Hicks.
Targun would have the last home run of the night in the top of the ninth inning and Cory Geisler, sophomore outfielder, drove in two more to make the score 12-4.
Tyler Davenport came into the game in the bottom of the ninth to end the Warhawks’ night and solidify the Bobcat win.
Texas State will resume the series in Monroe tomorrow at 6 p.m.
