Bobcats put up big numbers at Baylor Invitational

The Texas State track and field teams competed this weekend at the Baylor Invitational where numerous personal records were set.

Logan Cunningham, kinesiology sophomore, set a personal record in the pole vault with a mark of 5.25 meters, finishing first overall. Cunningham’s performance makes him the No. 1 male pole vaulter in the Southland Conference. He also holds the sixth-best mark in the Texas State record books.

Adam Hudson, assistant coach, said Cunningham is focused and will be able to keep his first-place standing.

Texas State athletes impress in weekend track meets

Select athletes from the Texas State track and field teams competed in two Central Texas meets this weekend.

The Bobcats participated in the Texas Relays Wednesday to Saturday hosted by Texas in Austin. The Bobcats competed at the Trinity Invitational Friday and Saturday in San Antonio.

Bobcats pile on wins in weekend track meet

The Texas State track and field team brought home wins in both the Alumni Classic in San Antonio and the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington this weekend.

Clay Holland, assistant coach, said the top finishes are a result of the team’s hard competition.

“We had a lot of good performances,” Holland said. “As a team, you could tell everyone was competing very hard. So we are pretty pleased with the overall outcome of the meet.”

Track, field team finishes in top five at Houston meet

The Texas State track and field team took a fifth-place finish this weekend in Houston.

The Bobcats competed at the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice. Texas State competed in a 20-team field and accumulated 57 points.

Assistant coach Adam Hudson said this weekend’s meet was the biggest for the team.

Bobcats recognize Athletic Training Month

March is known for events such as March Madness, Saint Patrick’s Day and Spring Break. March is home to National Athletic Training Month.

Carla Heffner, assistant athletic trainer, is coordinating events with the last women’s basketball game. Heffner said one of the motivations for the month is to look at awareness of athletic training and defining what the title entails. The purpose of the event is to bring attention to the major and profession.

Sprinter makes strides in collegiate career

Renee Shepard, senior exercise and sports science major, is a sprinter with the track and field team. Shepard has proven to be a prominent competitor in a wide range of events.

 

Track may be a sport Bobcat fans neglect, but Renee Shepard, exercise and sports science senior, said the activity is simply misunderstood.

Bobcat track, field finish ahead in Houston meet

The cold weather last week did not ice the track and field team’s performance Saturday at the Howie Ryan All-Comers Meet in Houston.

The Bobcats recorded top finishes in several disciplines. Assistant coach Clay Holland said the team may be young, but it is improving.

“We didn’t get to work out as much as we wanted to because of the weather,” Holland said. “This is the third meet of the year, and we have had some big improvements with some of our athletes and our team as whole. Our team is young, but we are getting better.”

Assistant track coach Adam Hudson was surprised by the performance from his freshmen and veterans during the University of Houston Invitational.

“It was our very first meet out, and you expect a slow start,” Hudson said. “We had a couple athletes perform beyond our expectations, and that is always a pleasant surprise.”

William Taudien, communication design sophomore, recorded his personal best time and is the fifth-fastest indoor 800-meter runner in Texas State’s history. Taudien placed second overall at the meet with a time of 1:55.49.
