Four Student Government Election Board members were confirmed and three pieces of legislation were passed Jan. 28 at the first Student Government meeting of the spring semester.
The Senate confirmed Student Body President Ruben Becerra’s Election Board Commission nominations: Chairperson Joshua Clarke and Election Board members Yunuen Alvarado Bustos, Kevin Sepanski and Chloe Diaz.
Some discussion and debate were held over the capabilities of the new members in part due to last semester’s resignation of former Student Government President Brooklyn Boreing and allegations of election code violations.
The Senate also passed legislation to make physical changes to the Texas State campus to improve its compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This includes more wheelchair accessible ramps and a braille map of campus in the LBJ Teaching Theater.
Two pieces of legislation were passed to guarantee longer voter hours during local, state and national elections, as well as voter registration packets to assist students in registering on campus.
Some changes to the Student Government Constitution are expected to be voted on at the following meeting.
Student Government meets at 7 p.m. every Monday in the LBJ Teaching Theater.
