The Texas State Bobcats competed in the Price’s “Give ‘Em 5” Invitational in El Paso, Texas Oct. 20-22, finishing the event in fourth place with an 11-over par 863.
Taking the top spot with a commanding 10 shot lead, finishing two spots ahead of the Texas State men’s golf team was the University of Texas at El Paso shooting an 839. Marquette and Oral Roberts finished in the second and third spots respectively.
Leading the Bobcats on the individual leaderboard was sophomore Calvin Ross. The mathematics major carded rounds of 64, 69 and 73 for a seven-under 207. Ross finished two strokes back of Marquette’s Hunter Eichhorn and one stroke behind UTEP’s Charles Corner.
Ross’ final round of play for the tournament saw the sophomore sink three birdies, with two coming during the final four holes of the event.
Earning his second consecutive top 15 finish, redshirt junior Logan Davis followed Ross, tying for 10th place after carding rounds of 69, 69 and 75.
In his final round of play Davis put up a four-over 75, sinking one birdie in the round.
Behind Davis was sophomore Logan Lockwood, the sophomore finished in a tie for 26th overall at six-over 219. The agriculture business and management major posted rounds of 69, 76 and 74.
Junior Alvaro Carol Estrems carded rounds of 74, 76 and 77, tying for 59th overall with a total 229.
Taking part in the event as an individual competitor, senior Xander Basson recorded a season low one-over 72 in the final round. The Emalahleni, South Africa native ended the event tied at 24th overall and posted a career low 54-hole total five-over par 218.
The Bobcat’s fourth place finish was its highest since taking fourth place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in 2015.
