The Texas State Women’s soccer team starts Sun Belt Conference play on Friday with a home opener against Little Rock.

The Bobcats finished 3-4-1 in preseason, and had a three-game losing streak against New Mexico State, Stephen F. Austin and UTEP.

They have also gone into overtime three times, and lost twice.

The Bobcats have shown to have trouble finishing their shots, despite leading in shots taken.

Last season, the Bobcats won  4-0 against SFA. Texas State took 10 shots, and eight were on goal.

This season’s match against SFA, the Bobcats took 23 shots, and only 12 were on goal. SFA had 12 shots, and eight were on goal.

Texas State had the lead going into halftime, but three minutes into the second half, SFA scored early, tying the game.

The Bobcats also had eight corners, and none were executed for a goal. The team needs to work on finishing its shots and executing goals.

In Sunday’s game against Northwestern State, the Bobcats won 1-0.

There were 13 shots taken by Texas State, and six were on goal. Freshman Jordan Kondikoff earned her first collegiate career goal just before halftime.

Assisted by senior Clarissa Leon, Kondikoff launched a shot from the 15-yard line, and had the only goal of the game.

There were other opportunities for the Bobcats to extend their 1-0 lead, but out of six shots on goal, five were saved by the Northwestern State goalkeeper.

On Sept. 16 the Bobcats will face Little Rock and two days later, Georgia State.

The last time these teams faced off was in the first round of the SBC Tournament, where the Bobcats were eliminated.

The Bobcats beat Georgia State in conference play 4-1, but fell short in elimination rounds.

Texas State is out for revenge.

The Bobcats beat both teams last season, and can easily begin conference play with a 2-0 standing.

The Bobcats will face the Trojans at 7 p.m. Friday at home, looking to take their first win in the SBC.
