The Bobcats took a huge win after recently signing professional golf veteran Jenny Gleason as assistant coach for this upcoming season. This will be Gleason’s first season with the Texas State Golf coaching staff.

Gleason comes into this upcoming season with nine years of professional experience and wisdom to share with Texas State. Gleason qualified for the LPGA Tour on her first attempt and played nine years in the tour, in addition to racking up a total of three victories on the Symetra tour.

Gleason began golfing at the age of 15 due to her parents’ influence. Gleason also credits her coaches Kelly Phillips and Lew Smither III as the individuals who impacted her golf career the most. Leading Gleason to rack up many highlights and award wins throughout her golfing career.

Gleason first entered the world of professional golf in 2003 after she finished her college career at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, winning three collegiate events.

In 2003, Gleason joined the Next Generation Women’s Tour and took home four out of seven event wins in her first year since turning pro in August. In 2005, Gleason won back-to-back titles in the Futures Tour at the Lima Memorial Hospital FUTURES Classic as well as in the Michelob ULTRA FUTURES Charity Golf Classic in a sudden-death playoff.

In 2010, Gleason placed 39th in the LPGA qualifying tournament to earn her category 20 status in 2011. In 2012, Gleason competed for her third career win in the Symetra Tour as the NE Delta Dental International.

Toward the end of her career, Gleason was sidelined with a shoulder injury in 2013, but received a medical extension into the 2014 tour season.

For the last three years, Gleason has been traveling all around the world including the United States, Korea and Japan. Gleason has been traveling as an instructor for the Air Force Golf Program, performing clinics for the troops.

The Texas State golf staff was proud to announce Gleason’s signing to assistant coach last Thursday. Gleason comes to Texas State with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement for the upcoming season and sees a lot of promise in the women’s golf team.

“Texas State has the resources and facilities in place,” said Gleason, to Texas State Athletics. “Now it is time to build relationships with these student-athletes and lead this program to the next level. The future of Bobcat golf is very bright.”
