The City of San Marcos has announced the filing period for those interested in running for city council is coming quickly.
The filing period begins on Saturday, July 23 and will continue until Monday, August 22. This period is designated for candidates interested in running for San Marcos City Council in the November 8, 2016 general and special election.
Positions up for election are as follows:
- City Council Place 1
- City Council Place 2
- A vacancy for the remainder of the term for the City Council Place 3 office.
Under the City Charter, the term for city council seats is three years. All seven members serve in at-large positions.
The City Council is expected to formally call the election at its August 16 meeting. The City election is held in conjunction with the county, state and federal general elections.
Anyone interested in filing may pick up a candidate packet at the City Clerk’s office in San Marcos City Hall at 630 E. Hopkins or download the forms from the City Clerk’s website at www.sanmarcostx.gov/elections.
The City Clerk’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exception of the lunch hour from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
