San Marcos will welcome the city’s newest hangout spot—Cheer & Chow, a restaurant with a grab-n-go concept.
Located in the hub of North LBJ, Cheer & Chow will open its doors July 25.
Mark Gentry, Cheer & Chow owner, wanted to start his own independent concept after buying from the Erbert and Gerbert’s franchise.
Gentry and his wife decided to open a restaurant with a menu of their favorite meals discovered on travels.
“We wanted to do our own independent concept—not a franchise,” Gentry said.
The menu features international food and will allow customer influence to provide flexibility, according to Gentry. Pre-packaged meals will be offered for the convenience of customers on the go.
Cheer & Chow will include a dining area for customers who want to enjoy the ambiance.
“Do not worry about being formal,” Gentry said. “This place is all about informal foods.”
The focus for Cheer & Chow is to provide good vibes in a feel-good place, according to Gentry.
Martha Juarez, English senior, said she is excited to have another hangout spot that isn’t a bar or coffee shop.
“I don’t know if it will be anything like Tantra when they have bluegrass nights,” Juarez said. “But, it sounds like a cool place to hang out in-between classes because it’s so close to campus.”
April Rosales, Austin resident, said she is curious to see what Cheer & Chow will bring to San Marcos.
“I haven’t heard about the opening,” Rosales said. “But I am interested.”
Cheer & Chow’s focus is bringing enjoyment to customers, which is what makes it unique from other locations in San Marcos, Gentry said.
“We are mostly trying to identify with good times and a great environment,” Gentry said. “Food is an added bonus.”
