After responding to an emergency call this weekend, university police arrested a man who allegedly broke into a dorm room in Sterry Hall.

Residential assistants at Sterry Hall said the break-in occurred over the weekend, not on Monday morning as stated in an April 11 KVUE article. The RAs are prohibited from giving out any additional information about the incident as the altercation involved a student resident.

A warning issued by the University Police Department via their website’s daily crime log on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. stated that a non-student was arrested for burglary of habitation.

According to the KVUE report, an unfamiliar man was discovered by a female student in her dorm room. He fled the building when she screamed.

Ledward Spencer, 25, allegedly matched the description given by the woman and was later arrested by UPD on the 400 block of North LBJ Drive and issued a criminal trespass warrant.

The suspect has since been transported to Hays County Jail, where he is being held on $25,000 bond and awaiting judicial review. Spencer is also being held on an outstanding warrant from Nueces County.

“I got an email about it this morning,” said Erin Lopez, nursing sophomore and Sterry Hall resident. “It really caught me by surprise; it’s sketchy! I was mad that they took so long to let us know. Supposedly, a door was unlocked.”
