Bobcats fall to 3rd place after second round


After a first round team score of 288 in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Texas State’s men’s golf moved to third in the standings in the second round.

The Bobcats brought their two-day score down seven strokes, but fell into third place as a result. Georgia State continued to lead after their first round 282, and followed it up with a team score of 279.

After shooting a 289 the first day, Arkansas State moved in to second place with a team score of 278 in its second round.

Chase Ambrose, freshman, followed his first round one-under par with a four-under par 67 in his second round. He had six birdies, 10 pars and two bogeys. He sits tied for second individually after his two day score of 137.

The freshman is only two strokes behind JJ Grey, Georgia State senior, who shot a six-under par in his first round, and a one-under par in his second round.

Anthony McGeorge, junior, brought his score down with his second round even-par 71. He had two birdies, 14 pars, and two bogeys. He sits tied for 19th place individually after his second round.

Justin Newby, senior, shaved five strokes off his score, as he shot a one-under par 70 in the second round. He had an eagle, five birdies, nine pars, one bogey, one double-bogey and a triple-bogey.

He sits with McGeorge tied for 19th place individually with two-day scores of 145 each.

Scott Williams, sophomore, shot another two-over par 73 in his second round. He had three birdies, 10 pars and five bogeys. Williams sits tied for 23rd place individually with a two-day score of 146.

David Faraudo Godinez, junior, added five strokes onto his second round score of five-over par 76. He had three birdies, 11 pars, one bogey, two double-bogeys and a triple-bogey. After a two-day total of 147, he sits tied for 28th individually.

With the Bobcats sitting third in the tournament after the second round with a two-day total of 569.

The Bobcats will try to improve their spot in the standings with the third and final round of the SBC Championship.
