Lisette Lopez: What made you want to pursue a career in finance?
Jordan Huckaby: One of my high school professors would always show us his portfolio and the Dow Jones. I just thought that was really interesting, and I really enjoy numbers. That was freshman year of high school. I never talked to him after that, but he pushed me towards that.
LL: Do you have a big family? What are they like?
JH: There are six children altogether; I have five siblings. They are kind of like me; they are fun and athletic. We would always play sports out on the yard. They are just fun to be around.
LL: Who is your celebrity crush?
JH: I would have to say Megan Fox.
LL: What do you do for fun?
JH: I like to fish and be outside a lot.
LL: If you could be anything you wanted, what would you be?
JH: I would be a lion. They are the kings of the jungle.
LL: When did you find your passion for throwing?
JH: Sophomore year of high school, because that’s when I found a private coach. He helped me get my (personal record) shot up 10 feet. That’s when I decided I should try and go to college for it. That’s when I started loving it.
LL: Why did you choose Texas State?
JH: I am from Lockhart, so it’s not too far. It’s 30 minutes away, and when I came here on my visit the campus was just beautiful. They took me into Alkek and McCoy, and that’s really why I am here.
LL: Who is your favorite athlete?
JH: Tom Brady, for sure.
LL: If you had to choose between being invisible, or having super-strong strength, what would you pick? Why?
JH: Super-strong strength, because I feel like strength would take you further in life than being invisible would.
LL: Do you have anything you are truly passionate about other than throwing?
JH: School—definitely. I love school, because I want to be successful.
LL: What do you hope to become after college?
JH: I hope to become a financial analyst. I just analyze the company’s investments.
LL: Do you have any major influences in your life?
JH: My mom, because she has always been to every athletic event and she has pushed me to be who I am today.
LL: What does your average day consist of?
JH: Class, practice and the library to study.
LL: Do you have any big dreams?
JH: I just want to one day own my own company.
LL: Do you have a favorite fast-food place to go to?
JH: Whataburger definitely—we’re from Texas.
LL: What type of music do you listen to?
JH: I have so many genres of music that I love. I listen to basically everything.
LL: What is your all-time favorite snack?
JH: Hot Cheetos.
