Before Student Government could start its joint session between the House and Senate tonight, they had to meet quorum which they didn’t have until 45 minutes into proceedings.
The House and the Senate require a quorum of two-thirds the total voting membership to conduct any business, according the Student Government Constitution.
After a headcount at the beginning of the meeting, Student Government was short one senator. Senators proceeded to call and text fellow senators as the meeting could not have gone on without meeting quorum. After 45 minutes, Vice President Samantha Martinez informed the group that a senator was on their way.
The final senator needed to meet quorum was greeted with applause upon arrival at the meeting.
