Texas State Women’s Tennis team ends season with a win against UT Rio Grande Valley

The Texas State Women’s tennis team competed in its last regular season game today at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Today’s match resulted in a 4-3 win for Texas State against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to conclude the season.

The Bobcats finished their season with an overall record of 8-12, and a Sun Belt Conference record of 2-3.

The tennis team has a 2-4 at home record and a 2-6 away record.

UT Rio Grande Valley currently has an overall record of 9-9, and a conference record of 3-2. The Vaqueros still have one more regular season match scheduled.

In today’s match, there were six singles competitions and three doubles competitions.

The underclassmen earned most of the wins today for the Bobcats. Yadira Rubio, freshman, Ana Perez, freshman, and Ammaarah Tim, freshman all beat their competitors: Perez and Tim in two sets, Rubio in three sets.

Rubio competed against Natacha Minc, sophomore. Rubio won in the first set 7-5, lost in the second 1-6 and won the third set 6-3.

Perez defeated Doris Aleksovska, sophomore, and won 6-2 in both the first and the second set.

Tim defeated another freshman, Tara Donaho, and won 6-1 in the first set, then won 6-3 in the second set.

The fourth win came from upperclassmen, Pippa Carr, junior, who won her match in three sets.

Carr competed against and defeated the Vaqueros’ Dominique Esparza, sophomore. Carr won 6-4 in the first set, lost 4-6 in the second set and won 6-3 in the second set.

Although the Bobcats won in the singles competitions, UT Rio Grande Valley defeated Texas State in the doubles competitions.

Perez and Rubio lost 6-3 against Reegan Greenwood, senior, and Donaho, while Carr and Tim lost to Dominique Ibarra, freshman, and Aleksovska 6-0.

However, the doubles team that consisted of Eva Dench, junior, and Katy Collins, senior, won for the Bobcats.

Dench and Collins competed against Minc and Esparza, and won 6-3.

Although this was the team’s last regular season match, the Bobcats will finish off the year competing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The tournament is scheduled for Thursday, April 21st through the 24th. This conference tournament is held in New Orleans, LA., and the team will have this next week to practice and prepare for the tournament.
