Bobcat Tennis take a loss (4-0) to UT-Arlington

The Bobcats and #58 ranked, UT-Arlington Mavericks took the court at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Sunday for the Bobcat’s fifth Sun Belt match of the season.

Texas State Women’s Tennis contended for a pair of matches against UT-Arlington, however was still unable to clinch a point. After Multiple unfinished matches and hard match losses, the Bobcats fell to UT- Arlington 4-0.

Katy Collins, senior, and doubles partner Ammarrah Tim started off the day for the Bobcats in doubles competition. After a hard fought battle, Collins and Tim were defeated by Agustina Serio and Valeria Lopez by a score of 6-3. After that, Yadira Rubio and Ana Perez took to Court 1 and were also defeated by opponents Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios, 6-4.

Juniors Pippa Carr and Eva Dench had a chance to clinch the doubles point for the Bobcats in match No. 3. Carr and Dench both pushed as a team against opponents Astrid Gehre and Jessica Birowski for a 5-4 lead before play was stopped. The match went unfinished and a decision was made allowing UT- Arlington to clinch the Doubles point, getting a 1-0 lead over the Bobcats.

The Bobcats tried to find a silver lining in match No. 5 against the Mavericks. Perez trailed ahead with a 4-3 lead over opponent Gehre after winning the first set 6-2. The Mavericks pushed back with three singles match wins before Carr could win the doubles point.

Dench first took on Thoms in a 6-1, 6-1 loss in the top-seeded match. In the No.2 match, Carr took on de los Rios for a 6-2, 6-2 loss. Tim also competed in singles and was defeated by Carla Cerdan Vives, 6-2, 6-1 giving UT- Arlington, their final point against the Bobcats.

The Bobcats had a total of three unfinished singles matches against UT- Arlington. The first came from Rubio who played Birowski for an unfinished 3-6, 0-3 match. After that, Collins took on Agustina Serio for a 6-7 unfinished match. Lastly, Perez had an unfinished match with Gehre, 6-2, 4-3.

UT-Arlington still holds an undefeated conference record of 4-0 following their win against the Bobcats.

The Bobcats come to a close in their regular season with a 7-12 record following this loss. Texas State holds a 2-3 mark in the conference. The Texas State Woman’s tennis team will close its regular season, honoring Senior Katy Collins before their match on April 16th. The Bobcats face their final home match against UT Rio Grande Valley this Saturday starting at 10a.m.
