The men’s and women’s track and field team competed at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, for the Baylor Invitational.
Jody Stewart, director of track and field, said they are practicing hard to do their best in the championship.
“We are conditioning a little bit more with the focus of running at our best coming up in May and June,” Stewart said.
In the hammer throw, Roman Rodriguez, senior thrower, placed 10th with a throw of 48.27 meters.
Three athletes placed in the top 10 of the shot put. Jordan Huckaby, senior thrower, placed fifth with a throw of 17.39 meters. T’Mond Johnson, freshman thrower, placed seventh with 16.17 meters. Rodriguez placed ninth with a throw of 15.50 meters.
In the high jump, Alex Tripplett, senior jumper, placed fourth with a high jump of 2.00 meters.
Seth Arnold, senior thrower, placed second in the pole vault with 4.95 meters.
Aaron George and Cody Schulz, junior jumpers, placed in the top five. George placed third with a jump of 7.26 meters. Schulz placed fourth with 6.84 meters.
In the discus throw, Huckaby placed ninth with a throw of 46.28 meters. Johnson placed 12th with 43.41 meters.
Alvin Chikaeze, sophomore jumper, placed second in the triple jump with 15.05 meters.
Joseph Pena, junior runner, started the races off with the 3000 meter steeplechase. He placed third with a time of 9:34.63 seconds.
In the 1500 meter run, Tyrone Jackson and Noe Belmares, junior runners, placed in the top 10. Jackson came in seventh with a time of 3:57.12 seconds. Belmares placed ninth turning in a time of 3:57.28 seconds.
In the 4×100 meter relay, the men’s team placed fifth. Phillip Green, freshman runner, Demarcus Porter, sophomore runner, George and Schulz contributed a time of 40.58 seconds.
Larron Black, senior hurdler placed 11th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.98 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, Lincoln Warren, freshman runner, placed sixth with a time of 47.66 seconds. De’Quad Binder, senior runner, came in 11th turning in a time of 48.16 seconds. Dexter Lee, junior runner, placed 13th with a time of 48.60 seconds.
James Hilliard, senior runner, placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.94 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, porter placed eight turning in a time of 21.19 seconds.
Jose Angel Gonzalez, sophomore runner, placed fifth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:42.17 seconds. Pena placed 12th with 8:50.44 seconds.
In the 4×400 meter relay, the men’s ‘A’ team placed second. Anthony Johnson, senior runner, Porter, Binder and Warren contributed a time of 3:10.05 seconds. The men’s ‘B’ team placed sixth. Hilliard, Lee, Black and Jackson contributed a time of 3:15.63 seconds.
On the women’s side of the field events, Julie Lange, junior thrower, placed third in the hammer throw with 52.40 meters.
Three athletes placed in the top 10 of the high jump. Chelsie Decoud, sophomore jumper, was first with a jump of 1.72 meters. Courtney Johnson, sophomore jumper, placed third with 1.67 meters. Raquel Robinson, freshman jumper, placed 10th with a jump of 1.62 meters.
Talore Kelly, senior thrower, placed fourth in the shot put with 14.92 meters. Lange placed fifth with a throw of 14.64 meters.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Kelly Trevino, senior runner, placed second with a time of 10:57.35 seconds.
The women’s 4×100 meter relay team placed second. Kaylee Krenek and Tramesha Hardy, freshmen runners, Antonisha Stewart and Nia Dorner, junior runners, contributed a time of 46.16 seconds.
Nikki Sanchez, sophomore runner, placed fifth in the 1500 meter run turning in a time of 4:45.09 seconds.
Krenek placed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.30 seconds. Abby Hani, junior hurdler, placed ninth with 14.48 seconds.
In the 100 meter dash, Hardy placed fifth turning in a time of 11.78 seconds.
Amber Gilmore, senior runner, placed seventh in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:14.37 seconds.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Sydni Willis, sophomore hurdler, placed fourth turning in a time of 1:00.72 seconds.
In the 4×400 meter relay, the women’s ‘A’ team placed third. Willis, Hardy, Gilmore and Dorner contributed a time of 3:39.54 seconds.
