With only three games remaining, the Bobcats are playing one more game on the road and hosting two final home games this week.
On Tuesday, Texas State will be heading to Arlington to play the UT-Arlington Mavericks.
The Mavericks are sixth in the Sun Belt, only one spot above the Bobcats. UT-Arlington holds an 8-9 record in the conference and a 13-14 record on the year.
This season, the Mavericks are averaging 58.7 points per game and shooting .391 percent from the field and .328 percent from the 3-point line.
Rebekah VanDijk, sophomore center, leads UT-Arlington in points per game, rebounds and field goal percentage. VanDijk averages 11.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting .485 percent from the field.
The Bobcats last match up against the Mavericks resulted in an 80-48 win for UT-Arlington on Texas State’s home court. VanDijk was able to get a double-double against the Bobcats.
If Texas State wins this game against the Mavericks, the two teams will be tied for the sixth seed in the Sun Belt.
Two days after leaving Arlington, the Bobcats host the Troy Trojans Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in their first of two final home games.
Troy is fourth in the Sun Belt with a 10-8 conference record and a 15-12 record overall.
This season the Trojans are scoring an average of 82.6 points per game. The team is shooting .415 percent from the field and .327 from beyond the arc.
Leading the Trojans in scoring is Ashley Beverly Kelley, senior guard. Beverly Kelley is averaging 20.3 points per game this season.
The last meeting of the Bobcats and the Trojans went in Troy’s favor. The Trojans defeated the Bobcats with a final score of 112-79.
Troy was allowed to score 64 points in the paint against Texas State.
The Bobcats shot 39.4 percent from the field and 40 percent from the 3-point line.
The Trojans are currently on a three-game winning streak after defeating Appalachian State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe.
On Saturday at 2 p.m. the Bobcats will host South Alabama for the team’s final regular game of the season.
The Jaguars sit between Troy and UT-Arlington at fifth in the Sun Belt. South Alabama is 10-8 in the conference and 14-13 overall.
South Alabama is averaging 56.5 points a game and shooting .387 percent from the field and .314 from the 3-point line.
Marquita Daniels, sophomore guard, leads the Jaguars in scoring with 11.5 points per game. Daniels also averages 3.5 rebounds per game and shoots .364 percent from the field.
Texas State was able to triumph over the Jaguars at their last matchup with a final score of 73-71. South Alabama is the only team of the three remaining in the Bobcats’ schedule that Texas State has won against prior to this week.
The Bobcats have a clinched playoff spot, so after this week they will be traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The tournament is from Wednesday to Saturday.
