Love local

Are you getting married? If so, there are plenty of local honeymoon spots that will not drain your bank account.

The Texas Hill Country is an equally amazing place to call home and vacation. Wimberley would be a perfect place to honeymoon. The city is located in Hays County and has just over 2,500 residents.

There is plenty to do in Wimberley. You can walk around and shop downtown, check out wineries and breweries in the area and swim or tube the river.

A romantic place to stay in Wimberley is the 7A Resort. The rooms and cabins at 7A range from $78 to $105 per night, so it is definitely affordable for young couples.

Kayla Ornelas, the nighttime manager at 7A, had a lot to say about the various activities the resort has to offer brides and newlyweds.

“There is a chapel at the resort, so many couples will have the wedding and reception here at 7A and then rent a lodge after,” Ornelas said.

The resort is located right on the river, giving guests easy access to the water to swim, tube and sunbathe. 7A also has a volleyball court, bicycling and Pioneer Town. Pioneer Town gives guests the unique experience of feeling like they are in an old western town.

7A Resort is about five minutes from downtown Wimberley.

“It is always a great time to visit Wimberley and stay at 7A. The staff is super friendly and Pioneer Town is one-of-a-kind,” Ornelas said. “We have local guests as well as guests from out of state, and some families have been vacationing here for years.”

Another option for a local honeymoon is the Main Street Bed and Breakfast in Fredericksburg. This city is located in Gillespie County and is known for its wineries.

Fredericksburg is a hot spot in the Texas Hill Country. For nature lovers and hikers, Enchanted Rock is located 20 minutes north of town, and the wildflowers in the spring are breathtaking.

Regan McGrath, a senior public relations major, recently took a trip to Fredericksburg with her boyfriend.

“It was a really romantic trip,” McGrath said. “My boyfriend and I met some amazing people and had some amazing food.”

Main Street Bed and Breakfast is located right in the heart of Fredericksburg. Rooms at this establishment range from $99 to $199.

Jennifer Erwin, office manager, talked about the importance of location on a vacation.

“Main Street Bed and Breakfast is in the middle of the attractions Frederick visitors want to experience,” Erwin said. “The shops and restaurants on Main Street are within walking distance of the hotel, and there are shuttles available to take guests to the local wineries.”

Honeymooners at Main Street Bed and Breakfast get the perks of a large two-person bathtub, full breakfast delivered to their rooms each morning and full housekeeping services. There is also a pool and hot tub guests can enjoy.

Plan a “staycation” to spend special time on a honeymoon at home in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.
