As temperatures fall and leaves begin to drop, many students on campus are trading in their flip-flops and sandals for sweaters and boots.
Amanda Smith, English senior, said boots become a staple of fall looks around this time of year to correlate with the other fashionable cold weather choices.
“Everyone tends to dress cuter in fall and winter seasons, and I think because of that, people want their shoes to be cuter, too, instead of simply wearing Nike sneakers all day every day,” Smith said.
Boots are trendy in the fall and winter months because there are so many selections to choose from, Smith said.
There is a boot out there to fit any person’s style, Smith said.
“Boot season is such a recurring trend each year because there are so many different styles of boots,” Smith said. “People are able to explore their individuality and be creative, seeing as there’s a boot that speaks to almost every type of person.”
Smith said the footwear is a great form of self-expression.
“Boots are just another way to express one’s personality in the fall,” Smith said. “You can typically tell part of a person’s interests via their shoes. Combat boots for the edgier styles, riding boots for the girlier girls and so on.”
Daneily Hernandez, psychology junior, said fall and winter are her favorite seasons because of the diversity in the looks she sees every year.
“Fall fashion is what I live for, and I look forward to it each year,” Hernandez said. “It’s so much fun to play with the various options, especially regarding boots.”
Hernandez said she believes ankle booties with a heel will take first place this season.
“I see them so often,” Hernandez said. “Ankle booties are very versatile boots, and many girls like wearing them.”
Summer Stewart, Shi by Journeys key holder, said the most popular boot is hard to predict at the beginning of the season.
“It’s hard to say which boot will be most dominant this season, because there are so many styles to choose from and so many different types of people,” Stewart said. “There are literally styles within styles of boots out there.”
Stewart said people come into the store each day requesting a variety of boot styles the store offers, and even some they do not sell.
She said her best guess of the most-loved boot this season is usually based off which style is most commonly purchased.
“I suppose if need be, I could predict that the combat boot is perhaps becoming the dominant boot because we sell so many of them,” Stewart said.
Stewart said people’s opinions on fall fashion make many different styles of boots popular.
“No matter who you ask, there will be a variety of answers regarding which shoe is the most popular,” Stewart said. “Everyone typically bases those kinds of questions off of preference, and preference is rarely unanimous.”
Smith said those searching for that go-to pair of boots to get them through the cold weather months should go with whichever style is most representative of one’s personality.
“For those looking to renew or add additions to their boot collections, I would say go for the boots that are uniquely you,” Smith said. “There are so many types of boots offered in the world, so why not find the pair that is representative of who you are?”
