The Texas State cross country team is getting ready to run its last race against Incarnate Word before the Sun Belt Conference rolls around.
Incarnate Word was ranked among the top 15 in the USTFCCCA South Central Region poll last month. Texas State was ranked in the top 15 for three weeks—twice at the 12th spot—placing above Incarnate Word, Tulane and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
With the short distance in the poll, Incarnate Word seems to be good competition for the Bobcats.
At the 2014 UIW Invitational, Texas State placed fourth for the women’s side with 82, while Incarnate Word finished with 67.
Sophomore runner Nikki Sanchez finished the race at 21st with a time of 24:19.1 in the 6K. Finishing five places later was junior Gabriela Ortegon, who had a time of 24:30.6.
For the men’s side last year the team finished second above Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian and Texas-Pan American. Sophomore runner Jose Angel Gonzalez was the second Bobcat to finish the race. Gonzalez placed sixth with a time of 25:00.9 in the 8K.
This year the men’s 8K race is scheduled for 8 a.m. while the women’s 6K is set for 8:40 a.m.. The Bobcats will be heading to Live Oak Saturday where they will run on a grassy course at Live Oak City Park .
