The U.S. Census Bureau named San Marcos, Texas the fastest-growing city in the U.S. with a population over 50,000.

According to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau, San Marcos’ population totaled 58,892 in 2014, a 7.9 percent increase from 2013 numbers. Texas had six cities rank amongst the top 13 fastest-growing cities including Georgetown, Conroe and New Braunfels.

Georgetown trailed behind San Marcos at second on the list for the fastest growing cities in the U.S., according to the press release. Texas had five cities with the largest population gains between 2013 and 2014.

Adriana Cruz, president of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, said in a May 21 press release that the prominence of Texas State has contributed to the appeal of San Marcos.
